Past Gun Dog of the Month Winners 603-645-5592

A Message From Bob & Buck Owens

Welcome to Lone Duck Outfitters!

I have vivid childhood memories of family car rides, birthdays, and letters to Santa, where I'd pester my parents for a dog. At the time, I didn't care what breed it was, as long as it would play fetch, run through the woods with me, and sleep by my bed! My obession with man's best friend drove my parents insane, and finally, they cracked under the pressure. It was Easter morning, 1996, when my Dad brought home a WILD seven month old chocolate lab. His name was Avo, but after a family discussion, we decided to call this beast, Nelson.

Nelson was the definition of man's best friend, but like many poorly trained dogs, he had his flaws. His bad habits include, but were not limited to: eating food off the counter, stealing winter hats and gloves, running away, eating rocks, and dragging us down the street whenever he felt like it. He was a bruiser of a lab. His athletic build and rippling muscles made him the envy of the neighborhood. Sometimes my Mom would tease us about putting a For Sale sign around his neck during local garage sales!

As Nelson aged, his bad habits became memories, and his lovable, devoted, and eager to please qualities became the norm. His love for my family was unmatched!

Unfortunately, Nelson was plagued with Hip Dyslpasia and cancer and in the Summer of 2009, we had to come to terms with his quality of life. To this day, that was the hardest decision I've had to make. Tears flowed from everyone's eyes... yes, even my Mom cried!

After Nelson passed away, my goals and life asperations drove me to learn everything I could about Retriever Training. I've read every book, watched every DVD, and apprenticed under some of the best trainers on the East Coast. The vision and ground work for Lone Duck Outfitters was born.

On Mother's Day 2010, my mom received a call asking, "how much do you love me?" Her answer, "very much, what did you do?" As I laughed, I told her about a litter of puppies that looked to be exactly what I was in the market for. A strong pedigree, right price, and only two hours away! Her love for me , once again, clouded her judgement and off I went with my sister to buy my future gun dog. Buck was my second choice after one of his brothers failed my puppy test. I pulled him out of the group, ran him through the paces, cut a check, and drove home ecstatic!

Our life together has been amazing. Buck and I have been all over the East Coast together. We've slept in parking lots, crashed on couches, and met so many new friends within the retriever community. Lone Duck Outfitters was born from my passion for retrievers, and the pride we all take in building the relationship between hunter and gun dog. Our mission is to improve and innovate the gun dog community through careful research and develoment. Our current product line is always improving and being added upon. We have several products in development which will provide our special niche' higher quality tools to train and hunt with our dogs. Please take some time to scroll around our website, enjoy the photos, join our community, and watch as we take over the gun dog world!
